What is NICEIC?
Recommended for electrical workNICEIC is one of the UK’s leading certification bodies for electrical contractors. A NICEIC-registered electrician has been independently assessed to work to the BS 7671 wiring standard, and can self-certify notifiable domestic work under Part P of the Building Regulations.
Do you need it?
Not a legal requirement, but strongly recommended. A NICEIC (or NAPIT) registered electrician can issue their own compliance certificate, so you avoid a separate Building Control fee and get independent recourse if something is wrong.
How to check it
Search the business at niceic.com, or check for the NICEIC logo and registration number on their quote and certificate. Registration is renewed annually and backed by an assessment of real work, so an in-date number means recent inspection.
