What is NAPIT?
Recommended for electrical workNAPIT (the National Association of Professional Inspectors and Testers) is a government-approved competent person scheme. Like NICEIC, a NAPIT-registered electrician is assessed to the BS 7671 wiring standard and can self-certify notifiable electrical work under Part P.
Do you need it?
Not legally required, but recommended. NAPIT registration lets an electrician certify their own work to Building Regulations and gives you an independent body to raise a complaint with.
How to check it
Search the NAPIT register at napit.org.uk, or look for the NAPIT registration number on the quote and certificate. Membership is renewed annually and involves an assessment of the electrician’s work.
